FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THURMONT, Md. (January 31, 2025) –On January 30, 2025, Deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft in progress at approximately 3:19 AM, in the 11730 block of Hessong Bridge Road in Thurmont. The caller reported that unknown suspects driving an SUV with a trailer had stolen two dirt bike-style motorcycles from their residence and were fleeing toward Route 15.
A short time later, deputies responding spotted the suspect vehicle near Route 340 and initiated a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop, leading to a brief pursuit.
Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks, deflating all the driver-side tires. The vehicle continued for a short distance before stopping in the median of Route 15 near Sundays Lane. Two male suspects fled the vehicle on foot, running through a nearby field. Deputies and Troopers assisting from Maryland State Police (MSP) pursued, quickly detaining the first suspect, 18-year-old Darius Deontae Bond, of Brooklyn, MD.
The FCSO drone unit, successfully located a juvenile suspect. The FCSO drone operator identified the suspect lying in the field and guided deputies to the exact location, where the suspect was taken into custody without incident. MSP Trooper 3 also provided aerial support during the search.
The suspect vehicle was determined to have been stolen out of Pennsylvania.
Investigators later determined that a third suspect, who was not in the vehicle at the time of the pursuit, remains at large.
Bond is charged with the following:
-2 counts -Theft: $1,500 to under $25,000
-Third Degree Burglary
-Fourth Degree Burglary
-Theft $25,000-$100,000
-2 counts Unauthorized Removal of Property
-Resisting Arrest
-Multiple traffic-related charges
Bond is currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center. The juvenile suspect was transported to the Sheriff’s Office per policy and charges were referred to the Department of Juvenile Services.
