FCSO Releases Bodycam Footage from March 18, 2022 Deputy-Involved Shooting

FREDERICK, Md. (August 13, 2024) –Today, The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) released video footage of the March 18, 2022, deputy-involved shooting that occurred in the 6900 block of Rooks Ct.

Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Deputy 1st Class Christian Lucente attempted a traffic stop for speeding and suspected DUI on Interstate 270 and Route 85. The suspect, later identified as Lookman-Khalil Abolajo Bello, age 28, from Hagerstown, refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued ending in the Kingsbrook Community area in Frederick, where Bello bailed out and a foot pursuit resulted. At one point, during the foot pursuit, Bello fired at DFC. Lucente, and DFC. Lucente returned fire striking Bello.

The Deputy did not sustain any injuries. Emergency Medical Services personnel transported Bello to Shock Trauma, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“The public should note two important points after reviewing the footage; how quickly the attempt to make a traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit ending with Deputy Lucente forced to exchange gunfire in the darkness. Then, despite the adrenalin and emotion of the critical situation, Deputy Lucente immediately turns his efforts to administer appropriate aid before the arrival of EMS. This is an example and a reminder of the threats and risks that law enforcement can face at any moment,” said Sheriff Jenkins.

This footage is being released to the public following Bello’s trial and sentencing.
