FREDERICK, Md. (July 22, 2024) – On June 29, 2024, at approximately 4:43am units from Frederick County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the Green Hill Park located in the 2800 blk of Decatur Drive in Adamstown for a reported fire involving playground equipment. Units arrived and extinguished the fire that resulted in extensive damage to numerous pieces of playground equipment estimated at approximately $230,000.
A subsequent investigation by detectives from the Sheriff’s Office identified two juvenile brothers from the neighborhood age 15 and 14 that were responsible for the damage. Detectives referred both brothers to the Department of Juvenile Services on charges of Malicious Burning and Malicious Destruction of Property. Investigation revealed that the brothers ignited tissues in and under the equipment that resulted in the damage and then took pictures and videos of the destruction with their phones which has been obtained and preserved.
The successful resolution of this case is directly attributed to the assistance received from numerous residents of the neighborhood that provided invaluable information and videos to detectives in this case. We are very grateful for their assistance.
