JOB INFORMATION​
Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible); full-time; 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and will include varied evening and weekend hours); full benefits
This non-sworn (civilian) position with the Sheriff's Office is responsible for the documentation of and service/delivery of all assigned paperwork (e.g. summonses, subpoenas, etc.) from the Circuit Court or District Court in matters of both civil and criminal nature. These duties are carried out according to applicable Maryland Rules or Procedures, under the supervision of the Civil Process Unit Supervisor, Administration Bureau.
NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions. For transfers and promotions, wage rates are calculated per County policy. For external hires, offers are made at the base wage rate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve court process such as witness subpoenas, writs of summons, child support and paternity, violation of probations summons, divorce proceedings and any judicial or court originated paperwork that does not involve a physical arrest and is allowed under Maryland Rules

Conduct interviews; organize materials and judicial process
-
Submit affidavits for evasion of service
-
Maintain required administrative records
-
Prepare and submit required reports
-
Coordinate activities with the Sheriff's Office staff, allied agencies, and the public when appropriate

Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The qualifications/requirements, knowledge/skills/abilities and physical requirements or working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

High school graduation or the equivalent

Minimum age 21 years
-
Minimum 2 years law enforcement work experience (including Corrections, Courthouse Deputies, Civil Process Administrators, and Probation Agents)

Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
-
Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
-
Ability to successfully complete civil process and other related training through the Sheriff's Office, including periodic renewals
-
Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills and accurate record-keeping skills, including the ability to accurately prepare and maintain detailed legal records and forms
-
Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor, and to complete assigned duties despite stressful circumstances
-
Ability to effectively access and utilize automated information systems and other computerized programs
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:
-
Criminal justice education and/or training
-
Experience working with law enforcement secured databases
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
-
While working in this position, the employee is frequently walking and driving; and is occasionally sitting, climbing, reaching and performing repetitive motions
-
While working in this position, the employee is frequently working indoors and outdoors; occasionally walking on uneven ground, in hot temperatures (above 100 degrees) and cold temperatures (below 32 degrees), in dirty and dusty environments; and rarely has potential exposure to infectious diseases

Available for varied working hours and varied days as needed, including weekends

This position is subject to random drug testing

Secondary employment will not be approved for Sheriff's Office personnel who have not successfully completed their probationary period

EXAMINATION PROCESS (may include):
